Establishing a fast-moving fiber network to support the movement of data at the highest level of security is quite the undertaking. Here at Recovery Point we recently converted our fiber network over to optical, creating a system unique in the industry and one that firmly sits above private cloud networks offered by other hosting and disaster recovery providers.
The carrier-neutral, DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) cloud network provides the ability to move data from multiple sources simultaneously on an optical fiber, with each signal carried on its own separate light wavelength. Using DWDM, up to 80 (and theoretically more) separate wavelengths or channels of data can be multiplexed into a light-stream transmitted on a single optical fiber. Each channel carries a time division multiplexed (TDM) signal. In a system with each channel carrying 2.5 Gbps (billion bits per second), up to 200 billion bits can be delivered a second by the optical fiber. Couple this technological advantage with the 300 miles of fiber connecting Recovery Point’s facilities into redundant peering nodes and you end up with one of the largest and most flexible private cloud networks and internet exchange points in the country.
This highly advanced network infrastructure allows Recovery Point to greatly reduce excess fees like "last-mile charges", and consolidates access to Recovery Point's array of services, providing one easy, fast, and efficient way to transport data safely and securely. Delivering flexible service options that are tailored to the clients’ needs requires the flexibility and cost effectiveness of such a high-tech fiber system, and giving our clients the best bang for the buck with such a cutting-edge platform is a point of pride for us.
In creating a fiber-optic network that integrates our facilities, our clients’ data, and the nation’s largest and most diverse network carriers we have set up a system where data can get to and from its destination at high capacity, with high security, and at remarkably fast speeds. We truly believe that Recovery Point's new optical cloud network architecture can become the gold standard in the industry.
