Establishing a fast-moving fiber network to support the movement of data at the highest level of security is quite the undertaking. Here at Recovery Point we recently converted our fiber network over to optical, creating a system unique in the industry and one that firmly sits above private cloud networks offered by other hosting and disaster recovery providers. This dual, concurrently maintainable chiller network forms part of the mechanical infrastructure at the Recovery Point facilities and is required in order to achieve Tier III rating from the Uptime Institute
Recently, Recovery Point was awarded prestigious Tier III certification by the Uptime Institute, a foundation for education, certification, and leadership for the enterprise data center industry and data center professionals. This all sounds great, but what does it mean? In 1993 the Uptime Institute opened its doors, with the intent of becoming the authority in the data center industry. Along the way they developed the Tier Classification system for rating the concurrent maintainability and fault tolerance of data center facilities. In doing so, a method was forged for people to discern between companies offering data vaulting, tape backup, hot and cold sites, and any other data management services. Now here we are, living a long way from 1993 and technology and data backup systems have grown and been upgraded by leaps and bounds over the years. More...

For business and IT executives facing tighter budgets in today’s economy, maintaining the integrity of their organizations’ data is more challenging than ever. Data backup, availability and recovery, and the processes required to ensure data centric compliance, consume significant portions of already strained IT budgets. IT executives have no choice but to continue searching for ways to do more for less. A holistic approach to data recovery — integrating multiple services in a single contract — provides a way for organizations to meet shorter recovery point objectives (RPOs) and recovery time objectives (RTOs) and achieve better results with greater flexibility and at lower cost.
Information and speed are the heart and life’s blood of business today. Data in all its forms constitutes 80% of all corporate assets. And while the value of a business may depend on the integrity and security of its data, a business’ data in turn derives maximum value from speed: in particular the speed at which business users expect current and historical information to be accessible and the speed with which operations can be returned to normal should a disruption or disaster make information unavailable.

It was an evening of good food, good drinks, good people, dancing, a Beatles cover band, some great prize giveaways, and, oh, also some talk of data management. The DRJ Spring World 2010 convention kicked off with Recovery Point leading the way.
Recovery Point President and CEO Marc Langer spoke to the exuberant crowd about the state of the data backup and management industry, offering his keen insight on the ever evolving data recovery business that resonated with just about all those in attendance. After the more serious aspects of the event the attendees collectively cut a rug and danced the night away to one of the best Beatles cover bands in the land. The 1960's themed event was nothing short of a full-fledged crowd pleaser, with almost everyone in attendance enjoying themselves immensely, networking with people in their industry, and dancing like it was 1964.
